‘Life of Pi’ is a philosophical novel that explores the tensions between reason and imagination. It was written by Yann Martel in 2001. It was awarded the Hugh MacLennan Prize for Fiction and was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize.
It is a fictional novel that focuses on the story of an Indian boy named Pi Molitor Patel. He was sixteen years old at the time of the main events of the novel. He was sailing in the Pacific Ocean on a cargo ship called the Tsimtsum. After a few days, the ship sank.
On board the ship, Pi finds a variety of animals. He enjoys them, but eventually sells them to zoos in North America. Pi’s parents decide to move to Canada because of political strife in India.
